A proven track record with over 150 successful alumni
THE VALUE OF SCMP
What makes SCMP different from other programs?
SCMP is fundamentally different than the other consulting clubs, programs and prep programs available at UBC and online for three core reasons:
Unlike other programs, SCMP provides you direct access to top consulting firms. Due to our partnerships, all successful SCMP candidates have first round interviews with a majority of the top consulting firms.
In addition, SCMP is solely run by alumni who all are current or past consultants. This provides a unique, insider’s view into the consulting interviewing process.
Lastly, SCMP is committed to the success of its candidates. We are the only program in BC to provide a term long extensive mentorship and training program for our candidates.
PAST SCMP PARTNER FIRMS
How does the program perform?
SCMP is a unique program, unlike any other in the world. Since 2007, through a well-developed network and a system of well-founded relationships in the Strategy Consulting industry, SCMP boasts a history of incredible achievements.
Over the past two decades, we have created a network of over 150 alumni who have successfully received a job offer through our program, with some receiving multiple offers. There are even more students who eventually joined the consulting industry later in their careers or with a non-partner firm.
MBA applying to major firm without SCMP
Every year in Canada, there are countless MBAs applying to the major firms. These students are all best of the best and come from schools with powerful legacies, like Ivey, Queens, Rotman, Wharton, Harvard, Kellogg, and others. Based on the real-world experiences of SCMP alumni, a conservative estimate has any of the major firms receiving roughly 2,000 applications every year.
From here, roughly 75% of the applications never make it past the first cut which sees the successful applicants progress to the testing round. So we're down to 500.
History has shown that around the top 15% move on from the testing round, so that leaves 75 applicants moving on to first round interviews.
Next, around 2/3 of candidates are cut after first round interviews, so we're left with 25 applicants who will see second round interviews.
Finally, roughly 1/3 of these applicants will receive offers. That means 8 applicants win this tournament and get to embark on a career they could have only dreamed of.
Comparing this figure back to the original 2,000 applications, the statistical success rate is 0.4%. Better than lotto 6/49, but still ... 0.4%.
Application case study
MBA recruiting through SCMP
Every year, we receive approximately 200 applications to join the program.
We typically accept 20% of applicants and end up at a program class size of 30-40 students.
As the program can be quite intense and require a large commitment from that of the student, we have repeatedly seen that those who prioritize SCMP throughout the Summer often succeed in the mock interviews. Historically, the top 1/3 of students successfully pass the mock interviews and proceed to first round interviews with our partner firms. So 10 students will proceed to interview with our partner firms.
This is where the numbers start to get even more exciting. While most students will receive at least one second round interviews at a firm, roughly 1/2 of the students will receive second round interviews at multiple firms.
Finally, around 80% of students who pass mock interviews will receive offers. That means 8 students will embark on a career in consulting.
Comparing this figure back to the original applicant pool, the statistical success rate is 4% - representing a 10x higher success rate than applying on your own.
The statistics provided above are in no way a guarantee of expected results. Considering that McKinsey, Bain, and BCG are all ranked within the top hardest interviews, prospective SCMP applicants should understand how difficult it is to break into this industry.
