ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

  • What is SCMP?

The UBC Strategy Consulting Mentorship Program was founded in 2007 with the purpose of providing an opportunity for UBC undergraduate and graduate students to best prepare for and interview with the top global strategy consulting firms. SCMP is unique to UBC and is a great opportunity for anyone interested in consulting or strategic management functions.

  • ...And how does it work?

SCMP is an intensive 2-month mentorship program that aims to prepare candidates for consulting interviews and life at the firm. This includes multiple lectures, 1-on-1 coaching, resume reviews, and more. SCMP requires a great deal of effort on the part of each participant and success in the program could lead to interviews with some of the top consultancies in the world.

Program Components

  • Lectures consist of full-day weekend sessions covering fundamental consulting interview skills, industry overviews, and interactive practice with alumni. These sessions provide opportunities for students to connect with their cohort and program mentors. Mandatory attendance is required from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday of lecture weekends. Optional socials may be held on Saturday evenings following the lecture as an opportunity to network with alumni.

  • Alumni 1-on-1 weekends consist of individual sessions with alumni to practice specific skills and receive feedback. These sessions are 1-on-1, typically around an hour, and are tailored to a topic of the student's choosing.

  • Resume Reviews provide students with the feedback and edits necessary to optimize their resumes for firm recruitment. Students’ resumes will be reviewed three times by alumni and peers.

  • Individual practice with peers and alumni is an expected, ongoing component of the program. Students may practice cases or behavioural interviews with their cohort peers or get support from our extensive network of alumni.

  • The Final Mock Interview consists of three interviews with senior alumni at the conclusion of the program. These interviews evaluate acquired skills and students’ readiness for firm interviews. Students who succeed in the Final Mock Interview will graduate from the program and proceed to interviews with our Partner Firms.
